Luggage
Hand luggage is a means of carrying personal belongings. It consists of either a bag (travel bag, rucksack, etc.) or a suitcase. It must be easy to handle. Crates, trunks, parcels, boxes and other items are not considered luggage. These are goods subject to taxation and specific transport conditions (see 3. General Conditions of Carriage for Goods).
Two pieces of hand luggage per person are permitted. These must be kept with the passenger during the voyage (depending on the vessel).
The transport excess is limited to:
• 20 kg per adult passenger
• 10 kg per child passenger
Any excess baggage will be charged at the freight rate. A 50% surcharge applies for loading at Le Conquet.
Random luggage checks may be carried out at the ferry terminal to ensure compliance with the free luggage allowance. Luggage other than ‘hand luggage’ is placed in a container and transported in the hold (depending on the vessel and at no extra cost).
⚠️ Please note: no luggage containers are available for journeys to Brest. Passengers must load and stow their own luggage on board the vessel. Luggage containers are only available for journeys to and from Le Conquet (for the islands of Ouessant and Molène). The ships’ luggage capacity is limited. BreizhGo Penn Ar Bed may have to transfer luggage to another ship or journey if the ship’s maximum luggage capacity is reached or for any other safety-related reason. Luggage must be secured to ensure safe transport.
It is strictly forbidden to carry dangerous goods in hand luggage. The following are considered dangerous goods:
- Flammable substances (petrol, white spirit, etc.)
- Aerosols and pressurised containers (gas, oxygen, fireworks, etc.)
- Acids
We encourage you to shop directly on the islands, where you’ll find everything you need to make the most of your stay.
⚠️Luggage must be stored in the luggage racks provided on board or under your seat. Please do not place your rucksacks or other luggage on the seat next to you; the other passengers will appreciate it.
Bicycles
Bicycles may be carried on certain ferries to the islands of Ouessant and Molène, but this must be specified at the time of booking. The Petrel and the Enez Sun 3 do not carry bicycles.
The cost of transporting a bicycle is €9 one way (adult & child), or €18 return.
Transporting a folding bicycle is free of charge and is included within the 20kg allowance for luggage.
The transport conditions are the same as for standard bicycles. Standard folding bikes and electric folding bikes travel alongside standard and electric bikes. Carrying them by hand in the cabin or in luggage compartments is not permitted.
Electric bikes:
The cost of transporting an electric bike is €23.50 one way, or €47 for a return journey.
The price is determined based on the freight tariff and the value of the goods being transported.
Consequently, in the event of a problem, the cost of an electric bike – even without its batteries – is higher than that of a conventional bike, which explains the difference in price.
You cannot take your bike to the island of Sein; besides, it’s much more enjoyable to explore the island on foot.
Bicycle trailers:
Bicycle trailers are charged at the rate for two standard bicycles, i.e. €36 for a return journey
If you choose to bring your own bike, please remember to book a bike ticket when you make your reservation. Space on board is limited, and without a ticket, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate your bike on the day of departure.
Before boarding, please go to the ticket office at the ferry terminal so that our staff can take charge of your bike. Bikes do not travel with passengers but in a designated area on board the ship.
Our advice
For a day trip or a short break to the islands, the best option is to hire a bike when you get there – it’s cheaper and more convenient!
On Molène and Sein, you can explore the islands on foot.
You can hire standard or electric bikes on Ouessant from professional bike hire companies. We encourage you to choose this option for your cycling trips around the island.
Even when cycling on holiday on an island, wearing a helmet is strongly recommended.
