Island status

Islands and People
As part of its public service remit with the Brittany Region, the BreizhGo Penn Ar Bed shipping company is committed to ensuring territorial continuity between the islands and the mainland. To serve the residents of Ouessant, Molène and Sein, a special fare is offered to compensate for the constraints they face as a result of living on islands.
Since 2023, the Island Card has been issued to any individual who can prove that they are registered as having their main residence in one of the island municipalities served by the BreizhGo Penn Ar Bed shipping company.
The Brittany Region, following consultation with the local council, decides whether to issue or cancel the cards, whilst the shipping company BreizhGo Penn Ar Bed is responsible for producing and renewing them.
If you are eligible for this tariff, you will therefore receive a new card.

The special rate for islanders
Are you a carer and does a member of your family live on one of the islands in the Iroise Sea? To make travel easier for family carers or appointed carers, the BreizhGo Penn Ar Bed ferry company offers the Carer Card. This card allows holders to travel at a reduced rate all year round.
Who are ‘carers’?
Those eligible for the Carer Card are individuals recognised as guardians, family carers or recipients of the daily carer’s allowance (AJPA). These individuals may apply for a personalised card valid on the island where the carer resides. Applicants must submit their application by email to [email protected] with the subject line ‘Creation of Caregiver Card’.
The application must be submitted with all the necessary information and the following supporting documents:
• The judge’s decision (regarding the guardian)
• A certificate from the local authority or the care home (for the family support worker)
• A statement from the CAF or MSA confirming receipt of the AJPA daily carer’s allowance (for the carer)
• A document proving the family relationship between the applicant and the dependent relative (e.g. family record book)
• Proof of residence on the island for the person being cared for
• Proof of the carer’s address (the address to which the card will be sent once it has been approved).
Once approved, the personalised card will be issued and sent by post as soon as possible. Supporting documents will be updated annually. Holders of the Caregiver Card are entitled to travel at the reduced rate to the island where their care recipient resides.
To take advantage of this fare, please book online and select the Solidarity Fare; your crossing will be charged directly to your card.
