LE MOLENEZ

The Molenez is the company’s cargo ship, used to transport goods to the islands of Ouessant, Molène and Sein.

Built in 2000 by the CIB shipyard in Brest, the Molenez operates two trips a week in winter and up to four trips in summer. It has a crew of five sailors, is 36 metres long and 8 metres wide, and travels at a speed of 12.5 knots. It replaced a barge called the “Fée de l’Aulne”, built in 1957 and listed as a Historic Monument since 2002.

The ship can carry up to 52 containers of cargo bound for the islands. It is therefore one of the smallest container ships in the world, but it is also, and above all, a general cargo ship, capable of carrying road vehicles, construction machinery, buses and more… The Molenez is equipped with ‘cargo’ fuel tanks, but it also carries special containers of petrol and diesel.

The boat also handles waste disposal on the islands.
