Visit Sein

The island of Sein is a unique place at the tip of Brittany. Located around 5 km from the Pointe du Raz, it stretches for some 2 km and winds its way like an inverted S, with a width varying from 30 to 500 metres.

A lace-like island floating on the water, with an average elevation of 1.50 metres. Come and discover this exceptional setting and its majestic landscapes. The waters around the island of Sein are teeming with reefs and shipwrecks, and the lighthouses “La Vieille” and “Ar Men” guide ships with their reassuring beams.

History serves to remind us of the 700 shipwrecked sailors who were taken in in 1796 on an island suffering from food shortages, or of the 150 sailors and fishermen who set sail for England in response to General de Gaulle’s call. In the face of adversity, the people of Sénans stick together, just as their white houses with colourful shutters huddle together in narrow streets, designed to withstand storms.

It is worth noting that the island of Sein is exempt from all property tax, as compensation for the harshness of island life. As the saying goes: ‘He who sees Sein sees his end’, due to the treacherous reefs and currents surrounding the island, but go there without fear; you will find authenticity.

Sein is an island best explored on foot; scooters and bicycles are not permitted.
