Molène Island

Always with an eye on the sea

Located around 15 km off the west coast of Finistère, halfway between Le Conquet and Ouessant, the island of Molène is the main island of an archipelago of the same name comprising nine main islets: Bannec, Balanec, Quéménès, Litiry, Trielen, Ledenez, Béniguet and Morgol.

Covering an area of 127 hectares (including Ledenez), its highest point rises to 25 metres.

The prevailing south/south-westerly winds often bring rain, but above all ensure a particularly mild climate with little variation between summer and winter: it rarely freezes and snow is a rare occurrence.

Most of the coastline is rocky, except in the south of the island, where there are small, sheltered beaches. The strong currents keep the waters crystal-clear and encourage the growth of seaweed that can reach up to 10 metres in length.

To make the most of the sunshine and shelter from the prevailing winds, the houses on Molène face south.

Located halfway between Le Conquet and Ouessant, the island of Molène will captivate you with the beauty of its archipelago and its crystal-clear, turquoise waters. Surrounded by pebble beaches, the island is charming both for its size and the warm welcome of its 250 inhabitants.

Discover the catchment area that supplies the island with its fresh water, or visit the Drummond Castle Museum, which recounts the tragic story of an English steamship that ran aground on its shores in the late 19th century.

A stunning setting to explore every day, all year round, with BreizhGo Penn Ar Bed.
